Clean-Up Foundation is a non-profit organization /charity which aims to bring about a positive change in the lives of garbage cleaners and rag pickers of Mumbai. It was founded in 2016 by a city teenagers Sidharth Runwal & Sanjana Runwal. Sidharth established the organization with a substantial amount of work done for the welfare of sanitation workers of the city municipal corporation. Later Sidharth moved overseas for higher studies but remains actively involved in the planning of new initiatives and the overall strategy. Sanjana now spearheads on-ground operations of Clean Up, with Sidharth’s guidance. Sidharth & Sanjana were in their early teens when they started this NGO but they had big dreams and a strong determination. While Sidharth started with distribution of water purifiers for sanitation workers of the city, Sanjana started her journey by raising funds to donate prosthetic limbs to eight accident victims in Vidarbha. The creation of Clean Up was inspired by the ‘Swachh Baharat’ drive of India’s honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The organization’s objective is to be a problem solver and improve the quality of life of rag pickers and garbage cleaners in Mumbai. It has been taking steps in this direction through various activities such as provision of clean drinking water for garbage cleaners, providing safety gear for rag pickers, education assistance for rag pickers’ children, providing medical insurance and so on. It is now working on possibilities of providing housing facilities for this segment. The organization’s activities are targeted at improving and enhancing the hygiene, safety and sanitation factors around those who help the city clean but themselves live in appalling conditions.
